About Us

EEI is a non-profit, faith-based organization that had its humble beginnings in the 1960’s when a group of concerned religious and lay leaders, headed by Rev. Dr. Jule Ayers and Monsignor Donald McAndrews, began discussing ways to assist the community with moderate to low income housing in the greater Wyoming Valley area. In about a year or so, and after urging varied church organizations to get involved, this group nurtured the sponsorship of four diverse but socially committed religious bodies to form Ecumenical Enterprises, Inc., a name created by one of the original incorporators, Frank N. Henry. The four sponsors, namely, the First Presbyterian Church of Wilkes-Barre, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Scranton, the Jewish Federation of Greater Wilkes Barre, and the Metropolitan Lutheran Council of Wyoming Valley, appointed five representatives each to the Board of Directors. Since that inception, EEI has grown to include a total of 7 housing complexes, a 130 bed five star rated skilled nursing facility, and a 66-bed personal care home.

Our mission is to sustain and improve the quality of life of the older adults and those with physical disabilities that live in our diverse communities regardless of faiths, backgrounds and income levels by providing moderate-low income housing and nursing services.
